If you look at the highs and lows in the last three months of both goog and aapl, you will notice that AAPL dropped ~35% from its high of 200 and GOOG dropped ~27% from its high of 741. VMW took a huge hit yesterday, but it was ~33% and its already climbing back up today.
For the record, I am long AAPL, but I'd have to say it has been one of biggest, if not the biggest, large cap tech loser. But I'm gonna hold on.

But it really bothers me when people post how wonderful an app is and how useful it is and how it completely replaces a much more expensive app. When in reality it is only a simple consumer level product.
Others read this forum and buy Pages thinking that they can eliminate the use of Word. Then they find out that it really isn't that compatible with Word files. If you email a windows user a .doc file exported from pages, 7 times out of 10 they have problems with it.
Most pro printshops, publishers, law firms etc. only except word .doc files. Almost all law firms require a revision history. Collaboration tools are useally also required. Word handles this expertly. Plus it has table of contents tools, book publishing tools, bibliography tools, direct faxing,multitudes of custom templates, VB programing hooks, etc. etc. None of this has an equivalent in Pages.
I'm glad you found a solution to your problem and I am glad that Pages satisfies your needs for word processing. Maybe someday it will move out of the "consumer" ranks and into the "Pro" ranks when more functionality is added. Apple seems to know the niche that they are addressing very well.

In general, of all word processors that I've worked with (and I've tried out quite a few), Pages has some of the best Word compatibility that I've seen. To go back to the CAD analogy, in years gone by AutoCAD was the only CAD program, for all intents and purposes. Any new CAD programs were frequently measured, first and foremost, by their ability to exchange documents with AutoCAD. Of course, there was never a perfect ability to make such exchanges, as AutoDesk (makers of AutoCAD) kept the definitions of the dwg file format secret, and usually changed it from one version to the next. So, it made import/export difficult for the competitors, much like what MS does with Office. Did the fact that the exchanges weren't perfect mean that companies who chose to use other CAD packages weren't really professionals? No.
Again, these are just tools.
Will Pages fit the bill for everyone? Of course not. Does MS Word fit the bill for everyone? No. That's why there are different products out there. Certainly, Pages is not as feature rich (you named some specifics, though you missed some of Pages features in your citation ;) ) as MS Word. It's also a much younger program. Is it going to be a Word Killer? Probably not for the foreseeable future. But it's quite capable of doing what probably 90% of what the Word users out there use Word for. Finally Apple are back from those awful tanking sales G4 years, though will they ever break through that 5% glass ceiling?
I think so -- and soon. Look at the sales of the MacBooks, and they came very late in the quarter! So now we have a full quarter of MacBook sales, PLUS Mac Pros. Not to mention possible iMac and MacBook Pro updates to Core 2 Duo this quarter.
I say we will hit 5% next quarter. Apple is well on its way to being in the Top 3 as far as US marketshare! :)

Yes, and even I think this is weird, on two levels. One is the "watching her eat". The other is paying for the privilege. These guys could hang out at a mall food court or a Super Wal-Mart with an onsite restaurant and get their jollies for free on pretty much any given day.

I'd pay the full MobileMe $99/year price if I could sync all of the DVD movies I ripped (which currently fill up the 2TB hard drive on my iMac) to use in this fashion.

3 months... Or more, we don't know, that's the problem. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S2, an outstanding phone(reviews say), will be in the market. Apple, wake up.
Too bad the phone will be on the market for 6 months without a single software update then release a new phone telling customers if they want bugs fixed they'll have to buy a new phone rather than expecting a free software update. The fact that people take seriously Samsung's mobile phones really shows what a legion of drones there are out there - if Samsung aren't abandoning their Android users at the earliest instance they're screwing up WP7 updates.

No surprise that Apple are developing an iphone suitable for T-Mobile and other carriers that use the same spectrum. It is only AT&T's exclusivity that's held them back so long. And it's only that exclusivity that's held them back from offering unsubsidised, unlocked iPhones in their stores. The iPhone will be 4 years old in June. maybe AT&T's stranglehold is coming to an end.
If you want to see an iPhone ecosystem to Apple's liking you need to look at the UK, where O2 only had exclusivity for 2 years. Within months, every major network and most of the minor ones started to offer the iPhone. Now even the chav (that probably translates best as "trailer-trash") supermarket network of choice, Tesco, sells it. Competition keeps the prices lowish, but not as low as the junk android handsets and Apple sells unlocked iPhones at full price for those of us with cheap SIM-only plans.

Anyone going back tomorrow? I think I am done chasing these things for a while, but who knows. Went to South Coast before lunch for ***** and giggles and was told there would be no more iPads today. Period.
The guy told me that they never opened South Coast early. I told him that his counterpart told me yesterday to go to South Coast early. And he said, that they are normally open then, just for one-on-one and not any retail sales. And if they did get a shipment, they would sell them before they "opened". Wait, what?

I get about the same drop rate or worse in the DC Metro area. I also have friends on AT&T that have their text messages go to the wrong person. Thinking seriously of getting a Verizon BB and an iPod Touch to replace my iPhone. :(:(:( Sorry :apple:

amen, brother (sister?).. i, too, am in the original iphone club. i didn't think the 3G or 3GS were worthy of an upgrade.. but iphone 4 was beautiful and i was finally ready. unfortunately, i fell in love with the white so i waited.. and waited..
it's been a very painful 10 months, but now that i've waited this long, i'm trying to be strong and hold out for the iphone 5. i wish i knew whether it was coming out in june or september. if september for sure, i would just get the iphone 4.. argh.
I've become convinced the iPhone 5 isn't coming in June because iOS 5 won't be ready for it and tradition calls for every new iPhone hardware to be released with a new version of iOS. iOS 5 will be previewed at WWDC early June then probably released in September along with its corresponding iPhone 5 launch. I'm not waiting another 6 months with my 3G, I'll be getting the white iPhone 4.

Having looked at the numbers in more detail it is interesting that compared to the year ago quarter desktop sales are relatively static and pretty much all the growth in mac shipments is in the portable lines. Good to see Apple add 1bn to revenue anyhow.
I'd imagine that it's partly due to the long-term industry-wide shift toward portables.

I dont know of any wireless phone that could support real 4G speeds. Besides on a mobile device, do I really need more than 20mb down, 5 up? Thats already faster than my cable modem lol.
That is also true. What is it that you're doing on your phone that is requiring all these speeds? I'd rather have all the companies come together to make an LTE type of internet WIRELESS network, which will bring the cost down on both them and the consumers, and we'll have these speeds all over the nation for both phones and any wifi enabled devices. But that's probably wishful thinking lol :)

Sad thing is the developer is now going to be charged $300 (Apple requires the developer to reimburse the user Apple's commission).
I think that in case of accidental/erroneous purchases, this is not true.
If it was, that would be so awful that I wonder why no investigation has been aimed at this practice before.
